Logistics Management
So The Most Protracted Emigration/Immigration In History(tm) continues apace.
I’m here, but still in a temporary apartment until this coming weekend. On Saturday I will be moving the things I have in the temporary place, gathering up various bits and pieces I’ve had in the office since previous trips, and probably buying a few extra things once I get to the new, long-term home and notice some random item that isn’t provided.
I then have one week to get settled in before Gramsci arrives. He’s being brought across in the care of professional pet movers in the interests of reducing the likelihood of a stress-induced heart attack on the part of The Mrs. This has involved scheduling with the movers, arranging all his necessary health paperwork, and generally jumping through a number of official hoops. We’ve planned his move so that he arrives on a Friday afternoon, giving me time to settle him in over the weekend when I’ll mostly be around rather than at work all day (see what I mean about logistics?) Gert pointed out to me that Anna at Little Red Boat has just become a British San Franciscan too and I’ll probably be making an echo of this posting of hers that day. Must remember to buy a load of cat ’stuff’ to get things ready for him.
Then, slightly less than a week later, The Mrs arrives. In preparation for that, as well as obvious things like booking his flight and making sure there’s transport sorted for him to the airport (plus his bags; we’re not shipping stuff, just relying on my multiple trips backwards and forwards and Virgin’s generous baggage allowance to get what we need over here) there’s all the random household stuff to get sorted (as we’re keeping the house on in the UK), like making sure all the bills are on auto payments and stuff like insurance policies will automatically renew. And more practical things like finally getting the mountain of boxes in the spare bedroom moved so that our caretaking friend can have somewhere to sleep.
I really, really want this all to be done and the three of us to be settled into somewhere we can realistically call home for the next couple of years. Not only because I really miss them both, but also because that should hopefully mean that I can stop having to deal with all this nonsense.
