When I watched the news about it on the day it was announced, the only thing I could think was “who in the world thought it was a sensible idea to have £3trillion of business locked up in a single interlinked pair of businesses?”
The BBC News site, reporting on the Lloyds TSB/HBOS deal, this evening:
Lloyds TSB agrees a £12bn takeover of HBOS which will create a bank holding almost a third of the UK savings and mortgage market.

Right, and I am not all the comfortable with competition rules being relaxed to allow it to happen. I hope that it’s a short term thing and they get forced to break up in a couple of years. I won’t be holding my breath though.
