Close Races

The BIG vote next week (you know, Barack Obama vs the forces of darkness) seems pretty much sewn up here in California - the only debate remaining seems to be how record-breaking the size of Obama’s margin will be.

However, the other major issue (California vs the forces of bigotry and oppression), remains too tight to call.  I’m slightly insulated from the reality of this closeness, because San Francisco’s, well, San Francisco.  I haven’t seen a single ‘Yes on Prop 8′ sign except on churches (shock) and even as I’ve mentioned previously quite a few churches have No signs up.  It’s been disheartening and depressing to see the press reports of so much of the rest of the state being so conflicted over what to me seems so straightforward.

I mean, it’s not like I’m unfamiliar with fighting intolerance, having done my share over the years, but somehow I expected the real California to be like the California that Californians say it is…
