Argyle Is The New Black
I’m not sure if this is a purely San Franciscan thing, because my attention to fashion trends is somewhere on a level with my attention to Scientologists wanting me to take their ‘personality tests’, but someone, somewhere along the line, seems to have flipped a switch that says “it’s okay to wear sweaters with big intersecting diamond patterns on them again”.
Yes, Argyle sweaters are back and the things are everywhere - in shops, on actual people, in my drawer…
Yes, I admit, I’ve succumbed - I have one. It’s in shades of blue and was a bargain at Old Navy. The Mrs has at least two by the way.
I’m really not one for doing the fashion thing, and in fact I was just looking for a plain blue sweater, long sleeve - about as straightforward as you can get, because this is me after all. But all the plain straightforward items have been swept aside by a flood of diamonds.
It creates a strange dichotomy where I feel at the same time middle-aged because, well, it’s Argyle, and fashionable because, well, it’s in fashion…
