An Unexpected Treat

Happy Hallowe’en for yesterday.  Hope you had a good and safe one.  And Happy November.

Despite living in a fairly residential area and having seen several groups of Trick or Treaters up and down the street, they seemed to keep avoiding our place, so the big basket of sweet things on the hall table was mostly undisturbed.  Now I wonder if you’re supposed to put up some kind of sign to say you’re happy to be visited, though that seems to defeat the purpose.

We’d almost despaired of being visited at all when a ring at the door finally signalled a mixed age group with some small kids and some mid-teens on the steps.  The Mrs got to the door first and was handing out chocolate when I got there. When I appeared one of the kids said “Oh hey! No on Prop 8 - vote for Obama!”

Put the daftest grin on my face.

Did you have your porch light on and your jack o’lantern lit? There are signals, y’know…

The pumpkin was out, the porch light was on, and a lamp was warmly glowing in the hall. The new-to-the-neighbourhood weird British gay couple couldn’t have been more welcoming.

    Wait a minute…. I think I begin to see the problem…
